Poptime

Herein, I collect and count down my favorite pop, rock, r&b and hip hop singles released between the time I was born (1/74) and right this minute. Ordering is pretty loose and arbitrary until I reach the top 10 or so, when rankings will really mean something.

I'm limiting myself to things that have actually charted in the Billboard Hot 100 (or Billboard subcharts or foreign equivalents when applicable). Otherwise, trying to narrow a list down to 101 songs would be border on impossible.

  1. Artist: Bryan Adams
    Song: Run to You
    Year: 1984
Highest Chart Position: #6 (Billboard Hot 100)

Even before I ever touched a guitar, this was one of the songs I wanted to learn to play.  It was such a solid, four-cornered piece of music.

Anecdotal story: Years after it came out and long after all the singles had disappeared from the charts, I got my cassette copy of Reckless from K-mart after a dentist appointment.  I’d just had my first filling and was kind of loopy and ill, and to make me feel better my dad stopped on the way home and asked me what new album I’d like to have. Thanks, dad!
